I was born and brought up in London and had a career in theatre press and publicity management. One year, a friend said I must try Greece for a holiday instead of going to Italy. I had never heard of Lesvos but the flights were cheap and available, so we came. That was 1986. In two weeks, I managed not only to fall in love with Greece but also to meet a local Greek man, Michaelis.
The following year, I gave up my job, came back just for the summer – and never left. We got married, had two daughters, got divorced twelve years later, but still work together in our own business, organising summer trekking trips in the mountains by donkey.
I now live in the village of Petra, about 4 miles down the coast from Molyvos.
It’s not as sophisticated as Molyvos, but has a lovely traditional Greek atmosphere and character.
